Book Shelf V

My omnibus edition of Pullman’s surprisingly controversial trilogy, His Dark Materials, published by the prestigious Knopf house. A good story but not as good as some say, in my opinion. It is nested nicely between my three (so far) Marcel Proust books, Danish translations of “On the trail of lost time” (?) — tough, demanding reading but extremely fascinating — and today’s most original voices in modern weird tales, Joseph S. Pulver, Sr. Also a tough [repeat after me: tOugh!! !;-)] read but uniquely his own and with a raw power, rarely seen nowadays. Both books, Blood Will Have Its Season and Sin & Ashes are published by one of the very best small presses today, Hippocampus Press.
